LATE JOAO FERNANDES WILL BE GIVEN RECOGNITION

Excerpt from yesterday's Goacom Daily Newsclippings:

"LATE JOAO FERNANDES WILL BE GIVEN RECOGNITION: "Late Joao Agostinho
Fernandes will be given due recognition by the government of Goa" stated Mr
Manohar Parrikar, Chief Minister of Goa, while addressing a houseful
audience during the inaugural function of Kala Mogi's Tiatr Festival
yesterday, at Kala Academy, Panaji. The Chief Minister was reacting to the
suggestion put forth by Mr Tomazinho Cardozo, President of Kala Mogi,
Candolim, in his welcome speech, that the Tiatr being the most popular
dramatic form of Goa, late Joao Agostinho Fernandes, known as the "Father of
Tiatr" due to his invaluable contribution to the tiatr stage 100 years back,
should be remembered by posterity by naming the Open Air Theatre of Kala
Academy as Joao Agostinho Fernandes Open Air Theatre. Mr Parrikar informed
that many Ravindra Bhavans are being constructed by the government and
hinted that a Ravindra Bhavan, instead of Kala Academy's Open Air Theatre,
will be named after Late Joao Agostinho Fernandes, the "Father of Tiatr".
(NT)"

I am extremely happy to know that late Joao Agustinho Fernandes, the writer
of the first Konkani Tiatr a century ago, also known as "Father of Tiatr",
will be honored by Goa government by naming one of the Ravindra Bhavans
under construction after him. Thanks to Tomazinho Cardozo for the valuable
suggestion to the Chief Minister.
