Brass Band Konknni Programme
Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr, Alto Porvorim in collaboration with Tiatr Academy, Goa, Dalgado Konknni Akademi and Corporation of City of Panaji presents 'Popular Konknni songs’ programme by Mother Teresa Brass Band, Honavar, Karnataka at Garcia de Orta Garden, Near Panaji Church on Monday, 7th March 2011 at sharp 5.30 pm.
Entry is free. All are cordially invited for the programme.
The troupe will play Konknni film songs from the films Amchem noxib, Nirmonn, Padri. Besides the traditional Konknni songs they will play compositions of Chris Perry, Eric Ozario, Hendry D’Souza, Henry T. D’Souza,
Mother Teresa Brass Band is one of the best brass bands of the Western Coast of India. It was established in 1993. It has total 22 players in two groups and they play trumpets, clarinet, base drum, tuba, side drums, cymbals, morocco, alto horn, circle base euphonium, and trombone.
James Lopes is the leader of the troupe. The troupe has played at Bangalore, Mangalore, Belgaum, Bidar, Chitradurga, Mysore and practically in all the important cities and towns of Karnataka. Five times they were invited by the Karnataka government to perform at the Karnataka State’s formal functions.
On 9th December 2011 when the President of India attended the First world Konknni Cultural convention at Mangalore, this troupe presented their programme. The troupe has performed at Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr awards function on 26th January 2011 and also at Margao and Navelim. The troupe was given an award by the Karwar Diocesan Development Council in 2009.

Ben Antao at 3rd Book Club Meet, Goa
Amidst rows and stacks of books, several Goan writers gathered at the 3rd Third Thursday meet at Goa's biggest bookstore Broadway Books in Panjim, Goa, on 20th Jan 2011, some introducing their own books, others referring to books written by other Goan writers. Picture shows a section of the gathering, with Canada-based NRI Goan writer Ben Antao reading a passage from his Goa book.
