Tiatr has a bright future – Churchill Alemao
Panjim, January 3, 2011:
“Tiatr is one of the most important cultural aspects of Goan society. It has done yeomen service to the cause of Konkani language. Tiatr highlights the political, social, religious, etc issues of the Goan society besides providing entertainment. Tiatr has a bright future because it is loved by Goans” said Churchill Alemao, Minister for PWD, Government of Goa. He was speaking as a Chief Guest on the occasion of the celebration of 147th Birth Anniversary of Shri. Lucasinho Ribeiro, the creator of tiatr, at the DMK Auditorium, Kala Academy, yesterday.
Speaking further he disclosed that he is not only the lover of tiatr but he himself was a tiatrist and that he has written, directed and staged some tiatrs in the past. He even sang a small song from the tiatr to the surprise of the audience.
Paresh Joshi, Vice Chairman of Kala Academy who was the Guest of Honour, expressed strongly for the preservation of the unique dramatic form of tiatr. He said that we may venture on numerous innovations but we should take care that the unique format of tiatr is maintained.
Tomazinho Cardozo, President of Tiatr Academy Goa (TAG) in his welcome address brought to the notice of the people the contribution of late Shri. Lucasinho Ribeiro, to the tiatr stage who wrote, directed and staged the first Konkani tiatr “Italian Bhurgo” on 17th April 1892, i.e 118 years back in Bombay.
Roseferns, Vice President of TAG proposed a vote of thanks. Mario Menezes compered the function.
The formal function was followed by staging of tiatr “Bhurgim Tim Bavlim Nhoi” written and directed by Roseferns.
